The Broccoli Test – A Binary Indicator of True Hunger
Many people don’t know if they’re actually hungry. Instead, they eat because the food is out, the clock says its time to eat, or other people are eating. Or they’re in the car, etc. You can see how it’s easy to lose track of true hunger over time.
This gives you a binary indicator of hunger so that you can better satisfy your food + life goals.
Short Overview w/Steps:
- Choose a food you would eat ONLY if you’re actually hungry ( broccoli, carrots, beans, apple are common. ) Note you would never “stress eat” this food.
- The next time you find yourself in the kitchen, or think you may be hungry, ask yourself, would I eat broccoli (your answer from #1).
- If you would eat broccoli – you’re hungry! Eat something healthy. It doesn’t have to be broccoli, but it certainly can.
- If you’re NOT hungry – do something else that is satisfying. This is where you get to have FUN satisfying your brain with something other than food. There is work here, and a lot of play. Dance, read, play, sing, etc. Something fun, no chores.
